South Carolina Senator Tim Scott to Endorse Former President Donald Trump’s Reelection Bid
South Carolina Senator Tim Scott is planning to endorse former President Donald Trump in his bid for reelection, according to a source familiar with Scott’s plans. The announcement is set to be made at Trump’s rally in Concord, New Hampshire. Scott teased the announcement in a video posted on Twitter, standing in front of Trump’s campaign plane.
Scott’s Endorsement Comes Ahead of New Hampshire Primary
The endorsement comes just four days before the New Hampshire primary, where Trump will face off against former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Scott had been courted by Trump, Haley, and DeSantis in recent weeks. New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, who has endorsed Haley, dismissed the news, stating that nobody cares about Tim Scott.
Scott’s Short-Lived Presidential Campaign
Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate, ran a short-lived campaign for the Republican presidential nomination last year. Despite initial buzz, he ultimately suspended his campaign in November. Average polling in New Hampshire shows Haley closing in on Trump, but he still maintains a more than 10-point lead.
Former Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy Supports Trump
Scott is not the only former presidential candidate to support Trump. Tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy also threw his support behind the former president after a lackluster performance in Iowa.
