Tomar predicts that more academic leaders may be exposed in a similar manner. However, he believes that the focus should be on preventing future instances of plagiarism rather than retroactively uncovering past offenses.

While no violation of research misconduct standards was found, Gay has requested corrections to insert citations and quotation marks in two articles dating back to 2001 and 2017.
