Top Contenders for the 2024 Heisman Trophy
LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels won the 89th Heisman Trophy, but with him and other finalists expected to move on to the NFL, who are the top contenders for the 2024 season? Here are the top Heisman Trophy contenders for 2024:
Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama
After being benched in Week 2, Milroe regained the starting job and led the Crimson Tide to another SEC championship. He has the size, speed, and arm strength to excel in offensive coordinator Tommy Rees’ offense.
Ollie Gordon II, RB, Oklahoma State
Gordon had an impressive season, leading the FBS in rushing yards and touchdowns during the regular season. Once the Cowboys’ offense relied on him, he had six straight games with over 100 rushing yards.
Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas
Ewers helped bring Texas back to prominence, throwing for over 3,000 yards and leading the Longhorns to a Big 12 championship. If he returns in 2024, Texas could be a contender again.
Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
Sanders had a strong season despite playing behind a poor offensive line. If he returns to school and gets better protection, he could contend for the Heisman Trophy.
Carson Beck, QB, Georgia
Beck had a successful first season as a starter, leading the Bulldogs to a 12-1 record. With some key players leaving, he will need to step up in 2024 to be a Heisman contender.
Jaxson Dart, QB, Ole Miss
Dart revived his career at Ole Miss, leading the Rebels to a 10-2 record. He improved his decision-making and showed his dual-threat abilities, making him a legitimate candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
Omarion Hampton, RB, North Carolina
Hampton carried North Carolina’s offense with his impressive rushing performance. He had several games with over 100 rushing yards and could be a dark horse candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado
Hunter showcased his versatility on offense and defense, earning the Paul Hornung Award. Despite missing some games due to injuries, he logged the most snaps in the FBS and could be a unique Heisman contender.
Dillon Gabriel, QB, Oregon
Gabriel transferred to Oregon after a successful season at Oklahoma. With his talent and the Ducks’ offensive system, he has the potential to be a strong Heisman contender.
Cam Ward, QB, TBD
Ward is looking for a new home after a productive season at Washington State. Several top programs might be interested in his dual-threat abilities, making him a potential Heisman contender.
Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri
Burden lived up to his recruiting ranking as one of the top receivers in the country. He had an impressive sophomore season and could be a dark horse candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
Riley Leonard, QB, TBD
Leonard is on the move after a successful season at Duke. His next destination is uncertain, but if he continues his strong play, he could be a Heisman contender.
J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan
McCarthy’s future at Michigan is uncertain, but if he stays and continues to run the Wolverines’ offense effectively, he could be a contender for the Heisman Trophy.
Noah Fifita, QB, Arizona
Fifita had an impressive freshman season, completing over 70% of his passes and leading Arizona to victory over their rival. With more experience, he could be a strong Heisman contender.
Jalon Daniels, QB, Kansas
Daniels’ 2023 season was cut short by injuries, but if he returns healthy in 2024, he could be back in the hunt for the Heisman Trophy.
