King Charles III Diagnosed with Cancer, Continues State Business
King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer, as announced by Buckingham Palace. The diagnosis was made during the king’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, where a separate issue of concern was noted. Although the statement did not specify the type of cancer, treatment for the condition has already begun.
As a result of the diagnosis, doctors have advised the 75-year-old monarch to postpone public-facing duties. However, King Charles III will continue to handle state business and paperwork. The statement expressed the king’s gratitude to his medical team for their swift intervention, made possible by the recent hospital procedure.
Support from the United Kingdom and Allies
Following the announcement, messages of support have poured in from across the United Kingdom and its allies. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took to Twitter to express that the whole country will be wishing the king well. Even President Biden expressed his concern for King Charles III during a press conference.
This news comes less than a year and a half into Charles’ reign, following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
