Former First Lady Melania Trump’s Mother, Amalija Knavs, Passes Away

Amalija Knavs, the mother of former First Lady Melania Trump, has sadly passed away, as announced by Trump on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Trump expressed her deep sadness in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija.”

Describing her mother, Trump praised Knavs as a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She also highlighted Knavs’ unwavering devotion to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. Trump expressed that Knavs’ presence will be greatly missed and that her legacy will continue to be honored and loved.

A Life of Immigration and Citizenship

Knavs and her husband Victor, both natives of Slovenia, became U.S. citizens in 2018 through family-based immigration. This path allows relatives of U.S. citizens to more easily obtain their own citizenship.
