Hunter Biden Appears at House Committee Hearing on Contempt of Congress Resolution

Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, surprised members of the House Oversight Committee by making an unannounced appearance at a hearing on a resolution to hold him in contempt of Congress. This comes after Hunter Biden refused to testify in a closed-door setting last month, citing concerns that his comments would be distorted by Republicans. Instead, he offered to appear at a public hearing.

Republican House Members Accuse Hunter Biden of PR Stunt

Republican House members, such as Congresswoman Nancy Mace, criticized Hunter Biden’s appearance as a “PR stunt.” Mace questioned why the President’s son showed up and suggested that he had been bribed to do so. She argued that Hunter Biden, as a President’s son, has no immunity or privilege that would prevent him from testifying in private.

Hunter Biden’s Attorney Defends his Client’s Decision

Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, spoke with reporters and stated that his client was not evading Congress. He explained that Hunter chose to appear at a hearing where Republicans could not distort or misuse his testimony. Lowell accused Republicans of targeting his client as a surrogate for attacking the President.

Hunter Biden Walks Out of Hearing Room

During the hearing, Hunter Biden sat with his lawyer and observed the proceedings. However, he walked out of the hearing room just as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was given time to speak. Greene, who had previously displayed nude photos of Hunter Biden in a hearing, called him a “coward” in response to his departure.

Lengthy Disagreements and Postponed Vote

The committee continued without Hunter Biden as a witness, and the hearing devolved into lengthy disagreements between members. These disagreements ranged from the rules of procedure to personal bickering. The committee did not vote on holding Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress, postponing the vote for a later time.
